When we prepare the coffin, we attach a nameplate to the lid. This includes details of your loved one’s name, age and the date of passing. Upon arrival at the crematorium, these plate details are checked against the details submitted to the crematorium and on the paperwork we completed with yourselves and against the green form issued when you registered the death. Once the service has finished, the coffin is removed from the catafalque. Again, the plate details are thoroughly checked against the tracking slip. When the coffin is charged into the cremator, this slip is affixed beside the cremator to show who is being cremated at that time, as the cremation process continues, this slip follows too. Finally, when the process has completed, the tracking slip is then affixed to the container that the cremated remains are returned in.
Yes, but depends on several factors. We advise that you speak to your employer and ask the terms of your employment.
At Ashley Edwards Funeral Directors, the safety of your family and our staff and their families is our priority at this time. Due to the current short notice of government announcements and guidelines, we advise that your first contact with us should be by telephone. We receive daily updates regarding the rules and guidance from both the National Association of Funeral Directors and The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, of which we are members of both and will guide you through them as they arise. These will not stop us from making funeral arrangements. Face to face is always best, but due to the current situation, we may involve the use of modern technology.
Yes. Once a death has been verified or certified (this can be done by a doctor, paramedic, or qualified nurse) you will be advised by them to call us and we will be with you as soon as it is possible, this is usually within an hour. We believe in continuity, and more often than not, Ashley Edwards himself will attend with a colleague in a discreet black estate car. Ashley will be your point of contact throughout the funeral arrangements, with guidance and support that starts from your initial telephone call.
The choice of coffin depends on the funeral option you choose. With Direct and Direct Choice funerals, we will use a coffin suitable for cremation. For Simple Cremation, we will provide a wood effect coffin in a choice of, Oak, Elm or Mahogany.
For Traditional Services, as part of the arrangements, we will discuss the coffin options with you. This may be veneered, solid or a locally grown and woven willow coffin. Alternatively, we can even offer a coffin covered in glitter in a range of colours. Almost any request can be possible, and we may have ideas you hadn’t even thought of.
When we arrange a funeral service, one of the many options you will be asked is what you would like to happen regarding people giving in memory of the deceased. This could include either flowers, family flowers only and donations to a chosen charity, or no flowers, and donations only. Traditionally it would be flowers, but more often than not in the modern world people prefer to opt for family flowers and donations, and you can choose any charity or organisation to benefit from these contributions. At Ashley Edwards Funeral directors, our donating system is live and online. This gives you the ability to see how much has been raised at any time. We also invite donators to leave a message for the family, and if they would like to advantage of the gift aid scheme.
At Ashley Edwards Funeral Directors we offer a range of funeral services. With a Direct or Direct Choice funeral, the day and time of the service is convenient to us. With our Simple Cremation, you will be offered a choice of days, however, the time will be 9.00 am or 9.30 am. If you opt for our Traditional Service, you have full freedom to choose the day and time of the service, and we will advise and guide you throughout.
